Councillor Barber writes:
You may now be aware that Colchester Council has published its preferred option strategy for the Local Plan. This reflects an additional 11,000 houses on top of Colchester's existing allocation for the next 15 years, with Colchester's annual target increasing by 40% by the Government. This is a centrally mandated number and the Government has made clear that infrastructure cannot be a ground to reject housing. This is, in my view, clearly going to be a substantial problem for swathes of areas in Colchester.
This includes an additional 900 homes in Langham, 250 in West Bergholt, 400 in Great Horkesley, 430 in Eight Ash Green, to name a few areas. You can find these in the links below.
I am on the Local Plan Committee and I will have the chance to vote on this, and so I would welcome any comments you have.
Note: Areas shown in pale pink indicate possible housing developments
